Fans of the cult classic claymation shoot-’em-up Platypus have a good reason to celebrate.
Developer Claymatic Games unveiled Platypus Reclayed, a complete remake of the beloved 2002 game. Platypus Reclayed will launch this 2025. It will be one of many great upcoming titles releasing in 2025. And the reimagined title will be available on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.
The project is being led by Platypus’ original creator, Anthony Flack, in collaboration with the Claymatic Games team.
In a press release, Claymatic revealed more information about the remastered version of the original game. And they promised that Platypus Reclayed isn’t just a simple remaster. It’s going to be a comprehensive overhaul.
The game has been rebuilt from the ground up. It will feature newly sculpted claymation visuals in 4K widescreen. As well as updated gameplay mechanics and a host of new ships, weapons, and additional content.
According to developers, the remake aims to deliver an ‘exhilarating arcade-style experience.’ At the same time, preserving the charm of the original game.
Flack also expressed his excitement about revisiting the project after more than two decades.
“Platypus was the first published game I ever worked on, and while it had a great response, there were always things I wanted to improve,” Flack said.
“It was made under tight circumstances, without the chance for revisions or even proper playtesting. That it’s still remembered so fondly over 20 years later is astonishing to me. I’m thrilled to finally repay fans’ support with the best-ever version of the game,” he added.
Meanwhile, Claymatic has also released the official announcement trailer for Platypus Reclayed. And it offered a glimpse into the revamped gameplay and visuals.
Set in the bustling city of Collosatropolis, Platypus Reclayed tells the story of a metropolis on the brink of chaos.
Collosatropolis seeks to expand into the neighbouring region of Mungola. In turn, players must defend the underdog territory using the legendary F-27 “Platypus” fighter planes.
In Platypus Reclayed, players can do a co-op gameplay through the two-player simultaneous mode. The remake also introduces enhanced gameplay mechanics. It will also have new weapons, modes, and enemies.
